Director Bao-Hua Kao, Department of the Labor, Taipei City Government said although there’s no definition of typhoon day off according to labor laws currently, but according to the regulation, when natural disaster occurs, such as typhoon, the chief of any jurisdiction announce office closures due to typhoon where the worker works, lives or must pass by when commuting to, if the workers fail to attend due to natural disasters, traffic jams, etc. the employers are advised not to withhold wages, nor to treat workers as absence, tardiness, or force workers to take personal leave or other leave, nor to force workers to make up working, or withhold full attendance bonuses, dismissal or other adverse sanction.
