The Development of Healthy Bamboo Technology - National Chung Cheng University H
In response to the rapid changes in the bamboo industry and world trends, and to conduct discussions on advanced global bamboo issues for the development of bamboo technology and other industries, three online bamboo technology forums have been jointly organized by National Chung Cheng University in Taiwan and the South Asia Bamboo Foundation in India since 2020, with currently over 2,000 participants. To further enhance the cooperation with India and to connect Taiwan with the world, the first seminar of 2021 was held on March 18th of this year. In order to promote the development of bamboo biotechnology, the seminar organizers invited bamboo enthusiasts from 12 countries around the world to participate in the「Global Development Cases of Bamboo-Tech Industry」conference, with the main emphasis on research and application of bamboo technology in healthcare, with hopes that the bamboo industry will continue to grow and create global business opportunities through the concerted efforts of multinational industries, governments, and the academic community. On March 18, Dr. MuMin Chen, Deputy Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC) delivered a speech, indicating that Taiwan has performed well and has high potential for further development in the processing and research and development of bamboo applications. Through cooperation with India, Taiwan shows the potential of development in bamboo technology to the world, allowing the world to understand Taiwan's technological practices. We hope to further promote industrial development and interaction between Taiwan and India so as to sustain and expand the world market for the bamboo industry, as well as to establish Taiwan's position as a leader in tech development. Ambassador Gautam Mukhopadhyaya, former Indian Ambassador and former UN Social Development Adviser, gave an eloquent guest lecture on how bamboo has become a catalyst for global connectivity, from its use as a basic household utensil and food supply in remote areas to its cultural and artistic expression in advanced countries, serving as a pathway to sustainable development. The「Bamboo and Bamboo Charcoal Innovation-Sustainable Consumption and Production」team pointed out that bamboo has been used for medicinal purposes since ancient times, and bamboo charcoal has also contributed to the development of medicine, with its application in fishery and poultry breeding also showing promising results. National Chung Cheng University R&D Director Shih-Ming Huang stated that in the post-epidemic era, the world must pay more attention towards environmental protection and the well-being of our planet. With bamboo being a natural and sustainable plant, the bamboo industry is becoming a crucial industry for sustainable development in the world. With the added value of Taiwan's technology, a strong industrial chain can be created. We hope that with further exchanges between industry, government, and the academic community, a bamboo science park can be developed in Taiwan so that a world-leading technology industry can be established in Taiwan. Although the impact of the epidemic has prevented physical interaction, Chung Cheng University and the South Asia Bamboo Foundation will continue to work together by using the Internet as a platform to connect with the world, and will continue to cooperate with India and international organizations to organize various meaningful bamboo-themed activities. The seminar includes presentations by experts and scholars from four countries: (1) National Yilan University's R&D Director, Kuo-Feng Hwa, talking about the world's advanced research on the medical reduction of inflammatory response to vinegar, a by-product of bamboo carbon. (2) Ms. Shanté, founder of American Bamboo Leaf Tea, presenting " Innovative Potential of Bamboo for Medicinal Use". (3) Dr. R. Jayaraj, a bamboo researcher from India with speeches on the topics of "bamboo industry and the power of innovation" and (4) the founder of CHELA'T from Thailand discussing "bamboo innovation and products in Thailand" respectively. After the seminar, participants were filled with high hopes and ideas for the development of the bamboo industry, especially for the new issues brought about by health technology.
