The "2024 Taipei Wake Open" will take place from August 30th to September 1st, 2024 (with practice days on August 28th and 29th) at the YingHsin Pier on Shezidao. This event is guided by “Sports Administration, Ministry of Education”and“Taipei City Government” and jointly organized by “Chinese Taipei Water Ski & Wakeboard Federation”,“Department of Sports Taipei City Government”, and“Taipei Wakeboard & Wakesurf Association”. It will attract 159 wakeboarding athletes from 10 countries, showcasing their skills in Taipei. During the event, top performers from around the world will demonstrate their wake expertise. Shuttle buses will be arranged from the ShihPai MRT Station Exit 1 from August 31st to September 1st, welcoming the public to attend and watch.
As Taiwan's largest international wake event, this year marks the 10th edition. The competition will feature various events including wakeboarding and wakesurfing, with a total prize pool of up to One Million NTD. Among the participants are Chen Mei-Tong, known as the "Goddess of Wakesurfing" in Taiwan, who won the Master Woman Surf division at the 2023 CWSA WORLD TOUR Japan, and top athletes such as Kenta Nakayama from Japan. The event brings together wake enthusiasts of all ages, with competitors ranging from 8 to 80 years old.
During the event, the "2024 Taipei Riverside Photography Competition" will also be held, inviting hundreds of photographers to capture the unique charm and vitality of Taiwan's waterways. This will merge the excitement of wake with the art of photography, promoting Taipei’s riverside scenery. The public is welcome to visit Shezidao’s YingHsin Pier from August 30th to September 1st to cheer for the athletes.
Taipei’s water-based activities are flourishing, with many suitable areas along the Keelung and Tamsui Rivers. For instance, the largest summer event in the country, the "Taipei International Dragon Boat Festival," held at the Windward Pier, attracts many top competitors annually. Next year, the "2025 World Masters Games" will include 35 competition categories, featuring water sports, kayaking, rowing, sailing, surfing, and more. Athletes worldwide are encouraged to register soon without the need for qualification selection, as long as they are 30 years or older. It’s a chance to test your skills on a global stage.
